social media and news quality.

I believe that social media has improved the accessibility
of information and, but not the quality. It is easier for people to find news
stories and information thanks to the internet and social media sites, but
because so many people can post whatever they want the information may not be
accurate. Wikipedia is an example of a site that allows people to publish
information. They can out whatever they want into their article which makes the
source unreliable. I think that newspapers, books, or television news
broadcasts are still the most reliable sources for news and information because
they are reported by professionals and are checked before they are broadcasted
to the public.
Reviews posted on blogs or in comments on articles
can help lend a personal approach to information. For example, if someone
comments on a review for a restaurant saying it was a terrible experience,
their opinion can help you decide whether or not to avoid this restaurant.

Is social media a fad?

I believe social media has become a very important and permanent part of every day life for most people. It makes finding news, sharing stories, keeping in contact with loved ones, and so much more easier for everyone. That being said, some forms of social media can be fads. There are tons of different social media sites out there, each competing to be the most popular of them all. As certain sites upgrade and improve, others start to lose their appeal. Myspace, for example, was wildly popular when it first started up and it is now struggling to stay relevant with sites like Facebook and Twitter taking over.
Certain sites may come and go, but I think social media is here to stay. The statistics in the video provided for this lesson show that social media is one of the most popular things on the internet. Facebook has more traffic than Google even! People rely on social media far too much for it to just disappear on us. If anything, social media will continue to evolve and people will continue to adapt to it. Anything that will make our lives easier, we will use. It has truly changed the world for the better, in my opinion, by making communication between people, no matter how far apart they may be, much simpler. Social media is the biggest shift since the industrial revolution.
